| Dan Fernandes |
Chair, |
| Bob Biggadike |
Secretary, and |
| Al Cuperus |
Treasurer. |
You must be a dues-paying member of the Libertarian Party to participate in the election; your party affiliation as a registered voter does not count. If you are on the official party membership list, you received a postcard in December reminding you of this election. If you did not receive a postcard, please bring your party membership card to the meeting in order to participate. Copies of our regional bylaws are available in the form of a Word document, which you can request from me by reply email.
LPC Convention in LA: The annual convention of the Libertarian Party of California will be held at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, 6101 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, February 18 - 20, 2005. The hotel is right next to Los Angeles airport. We have arranged a special hotel rate of only $94 per night for Convention participants. If you plan on attending, call the hotel at (310) 642-1111 and tell them you want this special LP rate. The convention schedule includes many interesting speakers, including Jim Babka of Downsize DC, and Steve Rohde, former President of ACLU of Southern California. Noted author and motivational speaker Bob Burg will give a seminar on the art of positive persuasion. See for more details. Our Region 67 is allotted four delegates but we seldom send that many attendees. If your are interested in becoming a delegate, please contact me by return email, or email me at Dan@DanFernandes.com .
Tuesday 23 November 2004 Supperclub:
In our last meeting of the year, it was announced that election of regional officers would be in January 2005. Chair Dan Fernandes discussed the need for funding to finance the Libertarian Alternative Television Show in our region. Treasurer Al Cuperus announced that because of business and work demands, he does not plan to run for re-election. A news item, the Caltrans plans to help you live your life by dictating that you install a GPS device on your automobile so that you can pay additional taxes based on the miles you drive, was discussed.
Tuesday 26 October 2004 Supperclub:
The meeting was spent discussing the ballet propositions on the November ballet. The recommendations of the Chair Dan Fernandes are on his website at State Ballot Measures.
Official Libertarian Party of California Ballot Recommendations for November 2004 General Election are at
Oficial Libertarian Party of California Ballot Recommendations
Plans for Tuesday 26 October 2004 Supperclub:
Meeting Agenda: We will be discussing the ballet propositions on the November ballet. My recommendations are on my website at http://WWW.DanFernandes.com (click on opinions / state issues / propositions). There are some expensive propositions that we need to help defeat. I am speaking of Props 61, 63, 71, 72, and measure A. So bring your own ideas for discussion.
October Outreach: Region 67 activists handed out 500 Michael Badnarik pamphlets (all we had) at the naturalization ceremonies at Pomona Fairplex, Wednesday October 20. The rain gods were easy on us and only got us damp instead of drenched. People are more friendly in the rain, so it was actually more fun. Democrats were there too, but Republicans were apparently afraid to get wet.
- Regular Reminders -
Richard Rider on Web Radio: San Diego tax fighter and libertarian luminary Richard Rider hosts a new talk radio show each Tuesday from 8 to 9 PM. Richard covers world events and is always informative. Go to www.wsradio.com and click [listen live]. This guy is good!
VISIT OUR WEBSITE: Our Region 67 website at http://libertarian-ca-la-67.netfirms.com got a new look in September. We have placed a welcome massage on our home page, to encourage new visitors to join the party and support the cause. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Libertarians on Cable TV: Remember that our Region sponsors "Libertarian Alternative with Mark Selzer" on cable public access TV. For time and channel in your area, go to http://www.libertarianalternative.org/ and click on "times in your city".

Judge Gray Campaign: We will have campaign materials at the meeting supporting Judge Jim Gray for U.S. Senate. Please come get a bunch to pass out to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Judge Gray is clearly superior to his opponents Barbara Boxer and Bill Jones. Neither of them advocates ending the drug war, repealing the PATRIOT act, or fixing the 3-strikes law. We need to get out the word.
Mock Debate: Some regions are having a mock presidential debate in their October meeting. If you would enjoy participating in such theater, come to the September meeting and help us organize it.

He reported that in the poll for presidential candidate, Badnarik received 6 votes, Gary Nolan 35 votes, and Russo 42 votes. He reported other aspects of the convention which should be available at Libertarian Party of California.
Plans for Tuesday 23 March 2004 Supperclub:
We will have a report on our state convention held earlier this month and if time permits, plan our activities at the Diamond Bar Birthday Celebration which is scheduled for Sunday, April 18th.
Tuesday 24 February 2004 Supperclub:
The evening was spent hearing Professor (Emeritus) Stanley Moore's interesting talk and asking him questions. He spoke on Popular Culture and American Foreign Policy. As I understood him, he defined "myth" as a world view so that it includes belief in Human Evolution, Astrology, Buddhism, and Christianity. This rather broad definition of "myth" in my opinion has the effect of putting religion on the same basis as science. Religion is sometimes spoken of in a derogatory sense as being a myth. But if you use this broad definition of myth then science can also be called a myth thereby putting it on an equal basis with religion.
Professor Moore talked about the need for Government as a means to crush evil. He said that the foreign policy advisors of President Bush included both Christians and those with an atheistic, Hobbe's viewpoint. His somewhat controversial talk resulted in a lively discussion.
Plans for Tuesday 24 February 2004 Supperclub:
Stanley Moore, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Religion at the University in Wisconsin will speak on the topic, "MYTHIC ROOTS of PRESIDENT BUSH'S FOREIGN POLICY". People have reported that this talk is fascinating and stimulating. Don't miss it. Please plan to join us.
Tuesday 27 January 2004 Supperclub:
Gary Nolan gave an interesting talk. Erica Brown also gave a short talk. Elections were held. The results
are
Chair: Dan Fernandes
Vice-Chair: Bryan Lackey
Treasurer: Al Cuperus
Webmaster and Secretary: Robert H. Biggadike
A resolution was passed to oppose propositions 55. 56, 57, and 58.
Plans for Tuesday 27 January 2004 Supperclub:
Elections
Elections will be held. Offices to be filled are Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary,
Treasurer, and standing committee chairs. The election is governed by
our Region 67 Party Bylaws.
Speaker
Also Gary Nolan,"America's Voice of Liberty" for more than a decade as a
nationally-syndicated radio talk show host, will give a brief talk
and meet people. He will be seeking the Libertarian nomination for
president at the party’s convention in May. His message is one
of lower taxes, smaller government, less foreign intervention, and
fierce protection of our civil liberties. Click

interest to Libertarians.

on 27 January 2004. A motion was passed to authorize the
expenditure of up to $100 and to appoint Chair
Dan Fernandes to mail dues paying members in the region letters
announcing the elections in accordance with requirements. Dan

Plans
for 25 November 2003 Supperclub:
We must do something
about our region's bylaws, to remain nationally sanctioned. We also
want to discuss current topics, like for example, the food strike,
and healthcare mandates (see below). What are the Libertarian
principles which apply to unions and the current food worker
strike?
Should employers have the right to keep labor union
organizers off their property?
Should employers be allowed to
influence employees with offers of raises amd benefits just prior to
a union election?
Should employers be allowed to fire union
supporters?
Should employers be required to cover 80% of the
health care costs of their employees?
Tuesday
28 October 2003 Supperclub:

Plans
for 28 October 2003 Supperclub:
PETITION SIGNING: Your
Party is frantically collecting petition signatures before the
November 5 deadline to qualify candidates for the March 2004 ballet

you recently got a knock on your door by a Libertarian Party
volunteer or aspiring candidate, asking you to sign 3 petitions,
thank you for signing. If not, please come to our October 28 meeting
and sign petitions for the three candidates in your district. You
must be a registered Libertarian to sign, so if you are not, we will
have voter registration forms so you can correct that. Here is what's
in it for you.

they have to say.
2. New outreach issue pamphlets you can use to

was delivering a speech to the Sierra Club. Philip Heath obtained
signatures on a petition to overturn the Car Tax. He also gave
petitions to others present at the meeting. The need to adopt Bylaws
and the upcoming election were discussed.
Saturday
6 September 2003 Officers Meeting:
The Officers met at
Denny's Restaurant, 548
W Arrow Highway in San Dimas , at 1:30 PM. All four Officers
were in attendance. A motion was passed to authorize the Chair to
spend up to $200 for the purchase of literature, retroactive to 26
July 2003. It was suggested that 500 copies of "Is the
Libertarian Party for You?" and 1000 "Libertarian

necessary candidate information was received. Treasurer, Al Cuperus,
agreed to develop a projected budget for the following year. We will
have a free booth at the Los Angeles County Fair at which we will
support repeal of the car tax. Treasurer, Al Cuperus, pointed out
that we could not give region money to candidates because of tax
filing requirements.
Tuesday 26 August 2003 Supperclub:
The meeting was attended by Bruce & Robin Graf, Dan & Sue Fernandes,
Al Cuperus, Lori Ives, Bryan Lackey, Shawn A. Johnson, Marian Smithson,
Andrew Van Lahr, Jon Ridgeway, Robert H. Biggadike and Phil Heath.
Mr. Robin Ives, Chair of the Mt Baldy Chapter of the Sierra
Club and a retired Mathematics Professor from Harvey Mudd College
gave an interesting talk. He said the Sierra Club was founded by John
Muir in 1892. He said the Sierra Club has chapters in all states with
12.5 chapters in California. A chapter near the California border
with Nevada is counted as half a California chapter. He took
questions from the audience. In response to a question, he said the
Sierra Club does not buy property for conservation. He said the
Sierra Club supports the government buying land at market price for
environmental purposes. A video was shown. The video suggested that
the Puente Hills forested land should be connected to promote
wildlife survival.
The
Libertarian Party recognizes that the government, at the federal,
state, and local levels, is the single greatest polluter in the land.
In addition, our government doesn't even clean up its own garbage!
Plans for 26 August
2003 Supperclub:
We will have as guest speaker Mr.
Robin Ives, Chair of the Mt Baldy Chapter of the Sierra Club, who
will discuss Sierra Club activities. The Sierra Club runs great
outings as it leads people to encounter the natural world we are
fighting for. Newspapers report new assaults on the environment
daily. Is there a great need for the Sierra Club, the nation's most
effective organization dedicated to the defense of the environment?
Find out from Robin Ives illustrated talk about the Sierra Club.

three candidates for school
board elections.

could be composed and databases uploaded for mailing at the same
price as regular post cards.
A motion was passed to begin
mailing meeting notices.
Plans for 22 July 2003 Supperclub:
We will discuss
environmental topics in preparation for our Sierra Club guest speaker
in August.

Party for You, and $5 for expedited mailing so as to have the
publications prior to the Fourth of July.
About eight
students from the Glendora High School class on government visted the
meeting and asked questions about the Libertarian Party. They asked
about our position on abortion,
the death penalty,
and why we favored minimizing
government. They videotaped the responses of the officers
to the questions. The students were interested in having Chair
Dan Fernandes and Vice Chair Bryan Lackey talk at their class
and would consult with their teacher to arrange this.
Secretary
and Webmaster Robert H. Biggadike reported that he had certified
the election of officers and that Libertarian
Party of California Secretary Lori
Adasiewicz, Esq. had acknowledged the certification. Robert also
stated that links to Insider
Trading
Parts 1 and 2 and Medicare
and Prescription Drugs comments by the President of Ludwig von Mises
Institute had been added to our web site

April 2003 supperclub. He also reported that a link to FEAR
- Forfeiture Endangers American Rights had been added to our web
site.
Mark Opdahl gave a very interesting talk on PCA
Incorporated as planned. He also discussed his candidacy for the
Claremont School Board.

Also Mark Opdahl will be
speaking on recent Libertarian-spirited efforts, successes, and
failures in the local community of Palmer Canyon. Palmer Canyon is a
100% private community north of Claremont that has with reasonable
success defended itself from aggression by surrounding authorities.
Mark currently serves as president of PCA Incorporated, a California
non-profit corporation created to provide Palmer Canyon residents
with roads, flood control, and public areas, to aid in the resolution
of property line and property rights disputes, and to provide a
single legal entity that could most effectively represent our
interests to courts and governments. Prominent PCA Incorporated
successes include evicting a crew of city workers sent to work on
"the city's" road, and defeating the Three Valleys Water
District in court, thus preserving both our water supply and the
natural beauty of our canyon. While some history will be given
because it is necessary to understand the hows and whys of our
actions, the speech intends primarily to address the strategies of
our actions and the logic behind those strategies, and how a series
of past mistakes lead us to our current methods.
Tuesday
22 April 2003 Supperclub:
Three motions were
introduced and passed.
1. A motion to reimburse Dan
Fernandes $86 for his expenditures on behalf of the party was

the West
Covina City Council by Roger Hernandez to 1imit criticism of council
members during
public meetings . We find such a measure abhorrent
to the Constitution and to the
principles of our country and our
government, and furthermore we find such an action to
be among the
heights of political arrogance at the local leve1, where government
is
supposedly the most responsive, most open and most
accountable. The ESGV Libertarian Party
pledges to do everything
possible to prevent passage of this resolution.",
was
introduced and passed.
Plans
for 22 April 2003 Supperclub:
Our April 22 meeting is
special because we will be approving the first round of LP candidates
who will be among those representing us in the November elections. So
come out to meet the candidates and hear what they have to say. If
time permits, our speaker will be Dan Fernandes. Libertarian Party
Convention goers in February were treated to a presentation on how to
persuade people to your point of view, called the "five-step
power of influence" method, presented by Larry Pinci, master
negotiator. At our supperclub meeting, we will be presenting the
process and discussing how it can help us persuade people to support
our libertarian cause. Expect some stimulating disagreement.
Perspective outreach volunteers are encouraged to attend.

earnings in excess of 10 times the legally required minimum
wage.

Graf stated that the Women's
Motorcycle Expo will be held on Saturday, 29 March 2003, from 9
AM till 5 PM at the Moto Exotics parking lot, 515 W Lambert in Brea,

Joseph
Montoya delivered an interesting talk. He spoke of the tactics being
used to deny Miguel
Estrada judicial appointment to the Appellate Court. Democrats
are using a filibuster so that Estrada requires 60 Senate votes for
nomination rather than the simple majority required by the
constitution. Findlaw
provides a discussion of the constitutionality of Rule XXII and
George Will's so-called flip flop. Also as a part of former Senator
Montoya's talk was a discussion of the abortion issue and Roe
v. Wade.
Plans
for 25 March 2003 Supperclub:
Our Speaker will be Joe
Montoya who will discuss the delayed appointment of Miguel Estrada to
a federal court position. Joseph B. Montoya is a former councilman
and mayor of La Puente (1968-72), a former California state
assemblyman and majority whip (1972-76), and state senator (1978-90).
He served on a number of important legislative committees, and was a
Carter appointee to the ninth circuit court nominating commission. He
holds a BA in Political science and International Relations from
UCLA.

passed out a Libertarian Party pamphlet on the insane "war on
drugs" discussing the money wasted and disregard for civil
rights in this war. She discussed a plan of placing these anti drug
war pamphlets in "Head Shops" throughout Region 67.
