It should be kept in mind that the presence of a link does not necessarily indicate agreement of Region 67 Officers. A cursory examination of the Pacific Legal Foundation website indicates that they are pro-capitalistic and pro-libertarian to some extent. However, their position on the Boy Scout issue suggests that they may be influenced by religious political correctness.
PLF supports free berthing for the scouts at the city of Berkeley, California marina. Why taxpayers should support free berthing for the scouts or anybody else is not explained. The city of Berkeley denies the scouts free berthing because they discriminate against atheists and homosexuals.
The scouts certainly have a right to discriminate against atheists and homosexuals just as the Ku Klux Klan has a right to discriminate on the basis of race. But the discrimination against atheists practiced by the scouts is much worse than the racial discrimination of the Ku Klux Klan in the area of diversity benefits. The diversity benefits of integrating atheists with theists is far greater than any other type of integration since it allows atheists an opportunity to drive some sense into the heads of the Christians and it allows Christians to preach their dogma to the atheists. Although there might be a few arguments, possibly an occasional fist fight, the benefits of being exposed to a different point of view far outweigh the disadvantages.
Because of the great harm, the scouts do to the character to both the theists and the atheists, they should be denied free berthing at the Berkeley marina.
